The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) announced earlier this month that effective 1 October 2022, all Gauteng Labour Centers will no longer accept manual UI-19 forms that update employees’ information. The purpose of the UI-19 form was normally for claiming UIF benefits.
This notice was made available by the UIF call centre. The notice isn’t dated and cannot be found on the UIF website at the time of writing this post.
Specific mention was made of Gauteng Labour Centers. One can only assume that Labour Centers in other regions of South Africa will continue to accept UI-19’s, at least for the time being.
We would like to urge all employers that are not registered for uFiling to do so urgently. You may find yourself unable to modify or update employee information due to the manual UI-19 no longer being available.
We’ll post an update when further clarity and confirmation on this topic is made available by the Department of Labour.
Important Note: The UIF has since the publishing of this article withdrawn its manual UI-19 discontinuance notice. Please refer to the latest UI-19 update here.
